MICHAEL FELMINGHAM b.1935

OILS & WATERCOLOUR

Biography

Art Lounge International formerly known as Warwick Studios was proud to represent the works of Leamington Spa Artist Michael Felmingham between 1972-2008 in our Regent Street gallery.

Born in Birmingham in 1935, Michael taught for many years at Leicester and Coventry Colleges of Art and in 1989 and gave up teaching altogether to concentrate on painting. Working from his studio in Leamington Spa his paintings of his home town, it's old gracefull villa's, wonderful crescents and squares have become well known. His depictions of Venice and Northern Italy are familiar from frequent solo exhibitions within our galleries in Leamington and Warwick.

His paintings of Venice in particular show the love and passion he has for the secret corners of that beautiful city whilst  varying effects of sunlight on water, brick and plaster.

Many of his honest depictions show the narrow gleaming light he finds in the back canals along with the sudden illumination of a rotting wooden beam married with the vibrancy of the window box flowers. Michael has been exhibiting in many of the leading art galleries in Britain for over thirty years now and has  taken part at the Royal Academy, Royal Watercolour Society and Royal Society of British Artist locations. He has accepted commissions from major companies including Allied Lyons and Texaco. He is notably a water colourist and  was a Saunders Waterford Prize winner in 1981.

Michael's regular exhibitions with Bill Patterson and his successors in Albemarle Street have made his work more widely known. His work is represented in the collections of the Bank of England, British Gas, Texaco, British American Tobacco and many other public and private collections.
